The Kraal is a special unique place. Location is stunning, with beautiful unspoilt beaches typical of the wild coast. Our room was comfy and clean but our windows... one fell off, and the other could not open. Nice dinners albeit pricey; ice cold beers and reasonably priced bottles of wine available. Roads are not great. If it had rained we would never had made it! Communal areas very nice and well equipped, although cooking plates need to be replaced. Toilets excellent but tricky to wash hands (and brush teeth, and face in the morning) due to lack of water.. The Kraal has done a great job of creating a sustainable environment, with recycling grey water, solar, indigenous plants, fish ponds, chickens, ect

Been here a few times before and it will always keep me coming back. Situated in a magnificent slice of the Transkei coast, this spot has all that one could ask for. Amazing place, great hospitality, and heart warming people.

Business trip and so enjoyed a home away from home atmosphere. Shakes makes the best pizzas in the Kei by far - thanks for sharing such a paradise in Africa and the safest place in SA with the friendly Mpande villagers always looking after their visitors - will be back soon and again and again

The Kraal is nothing short of a spectacular quaint place in the middle of a beautiful vibrant village. We stayed at the Kraal and were greeted by Dillon, the coolest most interesting man I’ve come across. His knowledge on Eco Lodging and the environment amazes and I am yet to hear all his stories and knowledge about how he discovered, created, saved and maintained The Kraal. After discovering the oysters and mussels from the Locals, we had an endless supply of fresh seafood in the morning. I couldn’t get enough of it. Our very first day was spent eating the yummiest pizzas made by Shakes and we had way too many ice cold Corona Beers. Dillon, my heart and soul is so happy, thank you for the lovely stay! The rooms were lovely and we cannot wait for the girls to start baking freshly baked bread.
