5km out of Philippolis is a cute little brewery with Amazing homemade Gin, Craft Ale and Pizzas. I never tried the craft ale (but heard it is good) Everyone there was so friendly and it seems like the spot to be on a lazy Saturday afternoon. With well priced drinks and wood fired pizzas, it is definitely a spot you need to stop by if you're passing through Philippolis on a weekend.

Absolute gem in the Freestate. The skinny chef have made this little brewery their new home. Swing past for a cold craft beer en route to anywhere. Amazing staff, delicious food and a spectacular Freestate view.

We slept over in Philippolis at a place called Starry Night (next to Karoo Artists Cafe). The owner, Juliette recommended we try this place…known locally as “Karoo Ale Breweries”. The shop is owned by Oom Pierre and Tannie Corrie - such a lovely couple who are passionate about their Gin and Beer brewing and use local ingredients to get a very unique and tasty drink! A beer and Gin tasting is highlighted recommended. You sit out back in the property, sheltered from wind and next to three beautiful grape vines. They’ve gone to a lot of effort to make this a lovely (tech free) experience…so unless you’re taking photo’s, you may get a yellow or red card, which requires time out by sitting across the garden on a yellow or red chair 😋 The grounds are beautiful with a mini wishing well and windmill. Back to the shop: its an absolute treasure with the most amazing fireplace/stoves, and antiques that are just stunning- see photo’s. The tasting is super cheap, so why not pay a little extra to support locals who are beautiful people and passionate about their shop and life! Dankie Oom en Tannie, dit was verskriklik lekker!

I still recommend to call before you visit, but the brewery is FANTASTIC. The beers are divine and the brewer, Pierre is really great to chat to. The beers have local Karoo bush ingredients and it adds a great twist to the beers.
