I always check online reviews before deciding on a hotel to stay in, and I must admit that the google reviews for Coastlands Musgrave were not particularly encouraging. However, I decided to experience the hotel for myself. The service was genuinely good. It is always pleasing to see young people confidently running the front office, especially those completing their in-service training or Work Integrated Learning (WIL). These young professionals truly go above and beyond, and their enthusiasm and willingness to assist made my stay memorable. I booked into a Deluxe Room. The room was generously sized and included a balcony, which I appreciated. However, because the room faced a busy road, I noticed significant traffic noise later in the afternoon and into the evening. As a light sleeper, this became quite disruptive. Thankfully, when I requested to be moved to another room away from the road, my request was accommodated promptly and professionally. One area that I believe needs urgent attention is cleanliness and maintenance, particularly the carpets in the reception, dining area, and rooms, as well as the curtains, couches, and some common areas. These spaces would benefit from deep cleaning and refreshing. I would also strongly recommend considering double-glazed windows and sliding doors for rooms facing the road. This would make a world of a difference for guests sensitive to noise and would greatly improve the overall guest experience. In addition, incorporating lighter colours into the décor and furnisher could make the hotel feel fresher, brighter, and much cleaner. Overall, despite the concerns mentioned, I am willing to give this hotel another chance, especially because of the excellent service and hospitality shown by the staff.

The rooms were nice and the staff and actual massage was great. My only problem is the humanity factor. I got a glimps of the staff room. The staff rooms is basically a storeroom. Maybe 1.5m wide and maybe 5m long. The staff has is squashed in there and I saw only two chairs. Meaning you get a seat during your lunch at a first come first serve basis. Imagine standing on your feet for 4+ hours, only for you to go stand during your break as well because you were not quick enough. To make things worse, that same staff room is where they store the stuff they use on clients. You know, towels etc etc. Convert the room we got our foot treatment in into a staff room. What the heck, man! Those are human beings you got stashed like mops in the storeroom. They’re very good at the jobs, so they’re making you a ton of money. Why are you treating them like that ?

Room service isn't responsive at all! 2 consecutive days requesting for water which must be replenished after cleaning, with no response. Someone acknowledged both days that they are bringing but no one did! Booking instructions were not followed. First got a room with no views as requested and was changed the next day! Food at the ala carte restaurant was under done, imagine having chicken dripping blood. We had to charge phones at the reception after being told by a gentleman by the reception that they do not have international chargers, only to be told a day later by a lady at the same reception that there are international adaptors after she asked why we were charging our watch by the reception. They made my son's birthday worthwhile though at 315 restaurant but it's like they were different staff members within all spaces , some who actually want to assist or know what they are doing and others who are completely not interested or are clueless...

Buffet Very disappointed with our experience. We were really looking forward to it, especially as it was a birthday celebration. The food was extremely disappointing. Most of the meat was very fatty, many of the dishes were cold, and overall everything lacked flavour. Despite paying a premium price, we probably only ate about R50 worth of food because there was so little that we actually enjoyed. We have been to the Umhlanga branch before, and the quality there was far better. Unfortunately, this visit did not meet the same standard, and we left feeling disappointed. We won’t be returning to this branch.
