Antbear Lodge is a truly unique venue with insane carpentry everywhere. Each door is different, with a creative and quirky lock made of wooden cogs and interlocking pieces. Some doors even have wooden hinges. A lot of love went into building this wedding venue making Antbear Lodge into one of those places your wedding guests will talk about and remember forever. The charming stone-and-thatch chapel with its 270-degree glass picture windows has an impressive view of the Drakensberg Mountains. Chandeliers with fairy lights makes this chapel the perfect setting for a Bride and Groom to make their vows. There are options too for outside weddings either inside a forest or next to a dam with spectacular views. This is a Drakensberg wedding venue perfectly suited to an elegant country-style wedding. The lodge offers endless opportunities for wedding photos and horses are available if you would like to include them in your wedding pictures. Antbear Lodge includes a fully equipped professional kitchen and will gladly cater for your special day. The chefs here are experts at doing a sheep or pig on the spit and they cater for just about any requests. Vegan, vegetarian or whatever else you might need for your guests. They have a number of options as far as the bar goes too where you decide how you would like to handle the drinks. The reception venue can accommodate up to 100 guests. Smaller and more intimate weddings are a speciality of Antbear Lodge making this wedding venue is a particularly lovely space for those smaller weddings. My family went there for a long weekend to get away, it was good at the start, but then one of my family members got food poisoning from the food that night. We were going to stay for longer, so we decided to do horse riding, we asked the lady and she said that there was no horse riding due to them being in training. On the website it says that there is cheese making, wood carving, hot air balloon rides, helicopter flip and trails. Non of these were available and if they were we had to drive 1:30hrs to get there. Please update your website. We ended up leaving three day after arrival.

Booked a 4 night stay at Antbear. The farm is beautiful, but unfortunately I got food poisoning on the first night. All the activities that were mentioned were not available. Only stayed 2 nights as the only activity were the 2 trails. Andile is an amazing lady, and seems to run the show. The place is run down and in need of some TLC. Our dogs had the best time. I am very sad.

Such a great experience staying here. Nice, relaxing and cozy. The staff was friendly, the room cute and cozy with a fireplace. All the woodwork in the place is beautiful! Mountain View’s and a couple hiking trails from the lodge. This in central drakensburg about an hour away from giants cup and some other hiking. The food was amazing!!

Our stay at this lodge was deeply disappointing. The entire property felt abandoned, with the main lodge and most cabins in a filthy, neglected state—dusty, moldy, and rundown. The cave accommodation, while the best option, had a blocked chimney that filled the room with smoke, leaving us cold during a winter stay. The owner was indifferent and unwelcoming, and the horses were poorly cared for, despite the website advertising rides. The only positives were the beautiful wooden furnishings, the friendly local chef, and the citrus trees. Sadly, despite its clear potential, the lodge is falsely advertised and poorly managed. To make matters worse, we were not informed of a discounted cave rate and paid full price. It’s not worth the long journey—future guests deserve fair warning.
