A wonderful experience. I have twice before had the privilege of visiting the Oyster Box hotel for lunch. Recently we went out for high tea for my aunt’s birthday. The setting was absolutely exquisite and the service was excellent. The food however was rather underwhelming and the food was not up to standard. The cakes were mediocre as well as the mini tarts and sushi. However, the scones and clotted cream were delicious. In addition, the bathroom is beautiful and spacious. We were blessed with a breathtaking view of the ocean and the lighthouse. I would recommend visiting the Oyster Box to treat yourself.

What an incredible five days at The Oyster Box. From the moment we arrived until the day we reluctantly departed, every aspect of our stay was exceptional. The property itself is beautiful, the food was outstanding, and the service was truly world-class. What stood out most, however, was the genuine warmth and dedication of the team, who made our stay so memorable. A special thank you to Julian(Concierge), to Sanele at the Lighthouse Bar, thank you for your wonderful service and warmhospitality. Andile Khumalo - F&B Supervisor, consistently made every breakfast experience special. The Spa team provided a truly relaxing and rejuvenating experience, while Siya looked after us so wonderfully at the delicious Curry Buffet. Richard was always friendly, approachable, and eager to assist. A heartfelt thank you also to the beautiful housekeeping team who kept our room immaculate and provided such thoughtful and elegant turndown service each evening. And of course, the pool staff deserve special recognition for keeping us hydrated, comfortable, and thoroughly pampered throughout our stay. The Oyster Box has undoubtedly mastered the art of supreme client-centric hospitality. Every team member made us feel valued, welcomed, and cared for. Five days of absolute pampering, great food, exceptional service, and unforgettable memories. Thank you all for making our stay so special. The Oyster Box. Umhlanga. The iconic hotel that everyone dreams of staying at. The place with the red and white stripes. The lighthouse. The Indian Ocean views. The "five-star magic" that people rave about . I went. I saw. I left feeling like I'd been sold a dream. The Vibe: The building is beautiful. The location is stunning. The views are breathtaking. And that's where it ends. The magic, as people call it, seems to be a trick—you walk in expecting excellence, and you get a place that's coasting on its own hype. The Service: I've heard the stories. The attentive staff, the friendly smiles, the impeccable service . But here's the thing—when you're paying the kind of money you pay at The Oyster Box, you shouldn't need to gamble on good service. It should be the baseline. It's like a 5-star hotel with 3-star service and a 6-star price tag. The Price: And the price. The price is eye-watering. Prices start at $459 a night, which is roughly R8,500 . That's not a hotel stay. That's a mortgage. For that kind of money, I expect magic. I expect to be treated like royalty. I expect the staff to remember my name. I expect the service to be flawless. What I got was… fine. Just fine. The Food: You can pay R1,500 a head for a whisky and food pairing . That's not a meal. That's a week's rent. And when you're paying that, you want to be wowed. The Bottom Line: Two stars. One for the view. One for the building. The service, the food, the price... none of it adds up. The Oyster Box, you are an icon. And you're coasting. You think you're five stars? You're not. You're a five-star view with a three-star experience and a six-star bill. It's a shame. It's a beautiful building. And it's a beautiful disappointment.

We had high tea here and it was really worth it. The cake and tea selection was fantastic. We thoroughly enjoyed the sushi and the savoury items. The waiters were attentive.
