About New Holme Nature Lodge

The New Holme Karoo guesthouse is situated on the banks of the Seekoei River to the north end of the Karoo Gariep Conservancy.

We strive to accommodate our guests as close to home comfort as possible. It is not a tight hotel atmosphere but a very easy and relaxed home like stay. The guesthouse sleeps only 34 guests in 12 bedrooms and this makes close and personal attention possible. The rooms are all en-suite, decorated and equipped with bar fridges, electric blankets, air conditioning and with tea and coffee facilities. In mid summer the pool comes to a necessary rescue and is a time consuming activity for the children. Marisca is known for her high standard cooking. We make use of the well known Karoo lamb and venison as the basis of our three course dinners. All meats are produced on the conservancy and are organic. We only use of the best Cape wines which compliment the dishes. Home made bread and preserves are served. Most evenings you will sip wine around the braai fire with host P.C. as the bright sunset coullers make room for millions of stars. On request we do an intimate “picnic braai” on the deck at the hippo pool, this is very informal

We had a great stay at New Holme Nature Lodge. PC welcomed us on arrival and was very friendly, which made a big difference as it was our first time visiting. The lodge is a bit off the main road, but the gravel road is well maintained and easy to drive. We felt safe and secure throughout our stay. The place itself was clean, well looked after, and very comfortable. Next time we visit, we’ll definitely try out their dinner and breakfast as well. Overall, a really pleasant experience - we’d happily return.

We spent a night at New Holme while travelling through the Karoo. It almost felt like being welcomed home - the staff went above and beyond and everyone congregated in the beautiful old homestead lounge where the relaxed and easy atmosphere (and the honesty bar:), made for a wonderful evening. The surrounding nature reserve was an oasis of peace and our room in the converted stables was cosy and well-appointed. Definitely a gem we will visit again!

Great stay. Warm welcome by hosts and staff. Very quiet, farm. The dinner buffet was the highlight of our overnight stay - the lentil and bean side changed my life forever, I regret not asking for the recipe. We stayed in the tent because our three year old had been asking to go "camping" - not my cup of tea but was pretty cosy for one night.

New Holme Guest Farm is not really on the tourist route. But it is worth a visit for several reasons. The owner of the farm, P.C. Perreira (P.C. stands for Piet Cronjé, a farming general from the Anglo-Boer War), tries as a landowner to take responsibility for the local area. He does this by being not only a sheep farm but also a nature reserve. In various places there are beehives from which honey is harvested. The proceeds benefit the local population. Near the lodges, there is a bird hide on the bank of the Seekoeirivier, from where the weaver birds that live in the reeds along the river can be observed. Such as weaver birds and the Southern Red Bishop.
