The Gardener’s Cottage in Newlands is a lovely spot for breakfast, and our visit left a genuinely good impression. We arrived at 9 AM without a reservation — not ideal, I know — but the staff were gracious enough to seat us at a well-positioned table that was only reserved from 10:30, which gave us a comfortable window to enjoy the morning. The breakfast menu centers around eggs, served with your choice of sourdough, bagel, or plain bread. I had the Eggs Benedict with salmon, which I’d wholeheartedly recommend — well-executed and satisfying. We also tried the cheese omelette, another solid choice. The only caveat worth mentioning is the price point, which sits on the higher end for breakfast. That said, the quality, the setting, and the hospitality justify it if you’re looking to treat yourself to a proper morning meal. If you’re in the Cape Town area near Newlands and want a fine, unhurried breakfast in a pleasant atmosphere, The Gardener’s Cottage is worth a visit — reservation recommended.

I’ve visited The Gardener’s Cottage Restaurant several times, and every visit has been a wonderful experience. Nestled beneath magnificent old trees in Newlands, it feels like a peaceful forest retreat while still being conveniently central. From the welcoming water station at the entrance to the choice of sitting outside under umbrellas (with blankets provided on cooler days), on the stoep, or inside the charming cottage, every detail creates a warm and relaxing atmosphere. The menu is excellent. I highly recommend the Cottage Breakfast—it’s generous, delicious, and served with a choice of freshly baked breads. Their cakes and tarts are irresistible, and the coffee and teas are exceptional. The staff are always friendly and efficient, the food is consistently delicious, and the atmosphere is perfect for catching up with friends or simply enjoying a peaceful meal. One of my favourite places in Cape Town!

What a delightful find at The Gardener’s Cottage in Newlands! The service was friendly and efficient, with staff attentive to our needs throughout our lunch. This quiet, pretty venue feels surrounded by nature, nestled under ancient camphor trees (that create the leafy canopy over the outdoor seating area) in a vintage cottage setting which is perfect for big or small gatherings. We went for lunch but couldn’t resist trying the berry cheesecake, which was tasty and indulgent. The cappuccino was a little disappointing though as the foam was too airy. Overall, decently priced with ample parking under the pines, and we’ll definitely return!

The early bird catches the worm here. It's very popular so you'll have difficulty with parking. However, it's popularity is for a good reason- great & affordable food with a variety of options on the menu, friendly staff and top tier service and atmosphere. It is also child and pet friendly.
