A masterclass in hospitality — the staff alone make this place unmissable. From the moment we arrived, Grootbos set a tone unlike anywhere I have experienced in a lifetime of extensive travel. Three staff members greeted us by name as our car pulled in — not as a rehearsed gesture, but with genuine warmth and bright, shining faces that told you immediately this was something different. And that, it turned out, was the defining thread of the entire weekend. Every single staff member we encountered carried that same glow — a quiet radiance that spoke of people who feel safe, respected, valued, and truly happy to be there. In a world where hospitality so often feels performed, the authenticity here was striking. This is extraordinarily rare. I have stayed at exceptional properties across the globe, and I have never encountered a team that so consistently embodied sincere, genuine kindness. The care shown to guests was clearly a reflection of the care shown to the staff — and it showed in every interaction. The food was impossible to fault — beautifully presented, abundant, creative, and deeply satisfying. The best croissant I have ever eaten was served here, and the service that accompanied every meal was knowledgeable and attentive without ever feeling intrusive. The natural beauty of the reserve is breathtaking, almost beyond description — but what elevates Grootbos above the scenery is the immaculate care taken with every detail. Not a single corner was overlooked; the facilities and grounds were maintained to a standard that matched the landscape itself. Grootbos is a living example of what happens when people are placed at the heart of a vision.

Where to start with this amazing hotel!!! What a spectacular hotel with outstanding staff and service. They made us feel so special like we were the only people staying there. We traveled as a family of seven. The attention to detail was incredible. They fed us like kings (and queens) and there was so much love and detail put into every meal. The staff really made this place feel special. The kids club was amazing. A special thank you to Jonitta, Darren, William, Zee and Phele. There is really nothing we could suggest to make this place more magical and special than it already is. Sending much love from the Mahomed Family and hope to see you all soon again! From the welcome and assistance at the entrance gate, to the turndown service whilst we were at dinner, everyone is extremely friendly and customer-centric. The lodge facilities are comfortable but luxurious, dinner is a celebration of art and the suites at Garden Lodge (family friendly) are spcious and filled to the brim with luxury amenities. I wish I could have stayed longer.

We celebrated our 30th Wedding anniversary at Forest Lodge in Grootbos Reserve. What an amazing experience! The unanswerable question here is "What was your highlight?" EVERYTHING! From the welcome through the Boma dinner in the forest to the amazing Spa, picnic on the beach, private dinner in the wine cellar all topped up with the most incredible staff. Especially thanks to Darren, our Guide, Busi and Japan who went out of their way to make our stay even more memorable. And the food - oh my goodness - DIVINE. Probably the best place where we have stayed ever - and we've been around... Thank you Grootbos.
