About Shady Pines

Equidistant from Durban, Johannesburg and Bloemfontein, this beautiful home is situated in spacious gardens with full views of Platberg.

The enduring charm of the Pines is admired by visitors. It is a lovely example of what can be achieved with a very old house without sacrificing comfort or appearance. Shady Pines boasts 26 bedrooms, which includes double rooms, single rooms, twin rooms and family rooms all en-suite with M-Net on TV, amenities, coffee and tea. Shady Pines also has a swimming pool for guests to relax in the summer sun. The bunk beds in our family rooms are suited to children under 12 years. Home cooked meals are made from Mondays to Thursdays and must be booked before two o'clock in the afternoon. Unbound hospitality makes this a home from home. Shady Pines also has Wireless internet facilities available. Guests can enjoy beverages in the private bar area or on the veranda over looking the beautiful gardens and Platberg Mountain. Close to the Northern Drakensberg, Mount-Aux-Sources, the highest mountain in South Africa, the majestic Golden Gate, Sterkfontein Dam, the deepest dam in South Africa, Platberg Nature Reserve and down the road the artist paradise, Clarens. What a gem right at the foot of the mountain range... Ritch with heritage the house was built in 1880. Rooms are spacious and luxurious. Keeping to the theme of vintage meets a touch of modern design. The most gorgeous sunrises in my window, with twilight colors of peach and guava. Its rather warm in the day but it gets a little chilly at night therefore the building contrasts at night. I sight crack in the wooden floors. I'd like to believe that they are footsteps of the past. Highly recommend this blissful touch of peace and serenity. 🤍🌻

stayed in 2 different times in 2 different rooms. this is an old guest house with that ambiance way cool! the staff was fantastic, Johan at the front desk was great. if you are an Afrikaner they speak your language.

Shady Pines Guest House offers a golden opportunity to stay in a magnificent vintage house with incredible character. From the wooden floorboards, to the opulent high ceilings, ornate fireplaces and furniture from a long-gone era of excellence, you won't be disappointed. The rooms are warm, clean, beautifully-decorated and really comfortable. You have an on-suite bathroom, cupboard and drawer space, heaters, electric blankets and a TV. The dinners and breakfasts are wonderful and the service is truly exemplary, and always with a smile. There is very secure parking with easy phone-based gate access. Perfect option for a business trip.
