Fantastic way to celebrate a birthday brunch tasting many bubbles, meats, cheeses, jams, breads, chocolates and even macaroons... Really enjoyed the experience!

We went to The Tasting Room to celebrate my husband’s birthday and the food was honestly fabulous. We had received a voucher for Christmas and decided to use it on the 2nd, so we were really excited to finally experience it. The flavours were amazing and everything we did manage to order was absolutely delicious. There was also a mimosa special, which was a lovely touch and added to the celebration. That said, it was disappointing that they had only opened that day and were clearly not fully prepared. There were no fresh vegetables available and quite a few items on the menu couldn’t be ordered. If you know you’re opening, especially around a busy time, prep should really start a day or two before. It took away from what should have been a special birthday experience, as there were dishes on the menu we were really looking forward to but couldn’t order. We truly loved the food, but better preparation would have made the day feel as special as it should have been.

Such a disappointing experience. I took friends visiting from Cape Town to The Tasting Room after wanting to go there for quite some time, and it fell far short of expectations. Desire welcomed us and we ordered water. Masego then came to explain how the menu works and mentioned that the Harvest Table would be set up from 12h00. We decided to wait and see the food offering before ordering anything further and placed a drinks order in the meantime. When the drinks arrived, two of the guests were immediately put off — they were not visually appealing and hardly resembled cocktails. The Watermelon Collins was white in colour, with no sign or taste of watermelon whatsoever. The Gin-Ito, which appeared purple (likely from a blueberry element), also lacked any of the flavours described on the menu. There was no hint of mint, and it tasted more like a PO10C with soda water than anything else. The Harvest Table was only fully set up around 12h10, if not later. Between the disappointing drinks and noticing that some of the pots on the Harvest Table had chipped enamel, we decided not to stay any longer. I raised the issue with Masego regarding the cocktails and explained that we would be leaving. She mentioned there had been a product changeover the day before and that ingredients would only be available after the weekend. When Mbali brought the bill, I asked who the manager was, and she simply provided a name — with no effort made to address our concerns, offer a solution, or even attempt to turn the experience around. It’s a beautiful restaurant with a great concept, but unfortunately not worth R345 for four drinks and a sparkling water — especially when the quality and service don’t match the promise. We left and found another restaurant that delivered on both food and drinks.
