Our recent overnight stay was extremely disappointing, especially considering the high price we paid. Upon arrival, there was no one available to assist with check-in. The only person present told us to ask other guests, which is completely unacceptable. When we eventually managed to contact the owner, he was not only unhelpful but also extremely rude. The property was falsely advertised. The website claimed there was a bar and restaurant, yet all we found was a fridge with a couple of beers and very limited options, forcing us to leave and find lunch elsewhere. The room itself lacked basic amenities there was no water, tea, or coffee provided. When we tried to shower that afternoon, the power went out and there was no water. The situation did not improve later that evening when we returned from a wedding again, no power and no water. When we raised these issues with the host, he responded rudely and dismissively, escalating the situation into an argument. We felt so unwelcome and uncomfortable that we decided to leave that same night instead of staying over. Only as we were leaving did he switch on the generator, which felt far too late and insincere. There was no apology, no attempt to resolve the issues, and no regard for basic hospitality. This was one of the worst experiences we’ve had, and we would not recommend staying here. We requested a refund as we were not staying the night and was dismissed.

We had a wonderful stay at this lodge’s self-catering unit. The unit was exceptionally neat, clean, and well-equipped. The outdoor area with the pool and braai facilities was peaceful and beautifully maintained. A special thank you to Hesmarie for her outstanding service — she arranged everything for us at the very last minute and went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable. Her friendliness and professionalism made all the difference. We would gladly return and highly recommend this lodge to anyone looking for a relaxing, self-catering getaway.

Arotin looked to us like the most beautiful, peaceful place, but that’s not what we experienced.The place looks deserted, the rooms are not very clean in other words, black mold is stuck to the walls, and the coffee and sugar looks like they haven’t been cleaned for weeks. The shared kitchen’s sinks smell and are not cleaned at all. I feel that for R1600 (after being told it was R1400—not that the difference bothers me), it just feels like we were ripped off. For one night, it was definitely not worth the price.

Arotin Game Lodge is a good option for a stay over. The Lodge is very well situated in between beautiful mountains with the Crocodile river passing through. Although our stay was short and didn't experience everything available at the Lodge we would like to visit again to enjoy the tranquility that it offers.
