Our wedding weekend should have been one of the happiest experiences of our lives. The venue itself is absolutely beautiful and provided a stunning backdrop for our special day. We are also incredibly grateful for the work done by FlowerPoppy (Our wedding planner that I highly recommend), whose dedication and attention to detail helped make the wedding memorable.
Unfortunately, our experience with both the wedding accommodation and venue management was extremely disappointing.
Several issues were experienced by our guests and service providers throughout the weekend, including uncomfortable beds, a non-functioning toilet that guests had to manually flush with buckets of water, a fridge that was not working, a lack of hot water in both the wedding accommodation and kitchen facilities, and concerns regarding the cleanliness and maintenance of certain areas.
Some of these concerns were raised after the very first night of accommodation, yet the problems persisted throughout the remainder of the weekend. However, the larger issue is that many of these problems should never have been the responsibility of guests to discover or report in the first place. When guests arrive for a wedding weekend, it is reasonable to expect that the accommodation, plumbing, appliances, hot water systems, and essential facilities have been properly inspected by management and are fully operational before guests check in.
When we provided detailed and respectful feedback after the wedding, we expected acknowledgement of the issues experienced and some empathy for the inconvenience caused to our guests. Instead, the response focused largely on explaining timelines, defending the venue's position, and highlighting when problems were reported, rather than accepting responsibility for the fact that multiple issues existed during our stay.
The follow-up communication from management was equally disappointing. Rather than addressing the concerns in a customer-focused manner, the responses felt dismissive and defensive. At no stage did we receive what we felt was a genuine apology for the inconvenience experienced by us as guests, but instead we received excuses of personal issues from the owners side that then impacted the venues management, yet there was management on site that did not provide action to the concerns. The overall impression was that protecting the venue's reputation was more important than recognizing the impact these issues had on paying customers.
Technical issues can occur at any venue. What truly matters is how those issues are handled. A sincere apology, accountability, and a willingness to take ownership of the guest experience would have gone a long way. Sadly, the lack of empathy, accountability, and professionalism from management overshadowed what could otherwise have been a wonderful experience.
The venue itself is beautiful, but based on our experience, I cannot recommend the wedding accommodation or the management of the venue. Future couples should carefully consider not only the appearance of a venue, but also the level of service, maintenance, accountability, and customer care they can expect when something goes wrong.
