We had a very unpleasant experience with Newlands Country Lodge. Firstly, the location and access to the lodge were very concerning. The route to the property takes you through what felt like a very unsafe area, which made us extremely uncomfortable. The place is also not what it appears to be in the advertisements, and the description online does not match the reality. We made our booking the day before, but unfortunately we had an emergency on the day of arrival and had to cancel about 30 minutes before check-in. While we understand that establishments have cancellation policies, the policy here felt extremely unreasonable. There was no flexibility or understanding of the situation, and despite the short notice booking and the fact that we never even stayed there, no refund or even a partial refund was offered. Because of the emergency, we had to continue driving straight to where we urgently needed to be and could not stop to deal with the situation further. Afterwards, I noticed that many other guests seem to have had similar negative experiences, which is quite concerning. Unfortunately, based on our experience, we would not recommend staying here.

We recently stayed at Newlands Lodge and found it poorly maintained. There were coffee stains, dirty drawers, and even an empty bottle in my son's cupboard. The place wasn’t cleaned during our stay, and when I asked about it, they said they were too busy. We also had no hot water on the last day, and the room was only serviced once in five days. The linen was uncomfortable, and there weren't enough supplies for a self-catering unit. I wouldn’t recommend this lodge to anyone.

I would not recommend this place to anyone. There's just 1 aircon in each unit. In my unit the aircon was so small it didn't cool anything. In my son's unit the aircon was leaking. The cleaner told us that she knew the aircon leaks. We requested fans but we were told they they can't, cos the ones supplied in the rooms didn't work. The last 2 days we had no water, and nothing was done about it. I had to phone and inform management that electricity was running low. The unit did not have an electric stove and oven, it just had a gas stove. Sweeping and mopping was not done at all. The cleaner told me, "because I'm staying there I must sweep and mop, that's why it's called self -catering. The only good things were the sunrises, sunsets and chipmunks. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

Bad experience ever. No hospitality whatsoever. The manager mixed up our booking and blamed it on us. She was so arrogant when she was called and said “I don’t care”. What a rude lady. The place itself is not well kept. Do yourself a favour by not booking there.
