About Dieu Donné Vineyards Cellar & Tasting Room

In our cellar, Gregory Siebrits who has been with Dieu Donné since 1998, crafts a collection of easy-drinking new world styled wines as well as old world reds that stand up to other well-known wine regions, such as Bordeaux in France.

Visit our tasting facility adjacent to the restaurant or just enjoy a glass of wine on the upper terrace while soaking in the scenery. Hennie du Toit, Dieu Donné’s farm manager was born on the farm, once called Uitkyk, which was sold when he was 13 years old. Little did he know that he would return to his roots, mind the pun. Dieu Donné literally means “A Gift from God” or “God Given" What a wonderful discovery! The spectacular mountain scenery viewed from Dieu Donné Vineyards endorses this translation. Winemaker — Gregory Siebrits Dieu Donné’s Winemaker has an interesting story to tell, as he started to work at Dieu Donné when he was 21 years old in June 1997. He was then appointed as driver and general cellar worker for the farm and worked his way up the ladder through the years. Gregory Siebrits was born and raised in Franschhoek and even his grandparents are from this valley. Greg’s philosophy is to make wine that can be enjoyed by amateur and connoisseur wine drinkers. He always aim to make wine resembling the terroir of the farm. His motto is to be satisfied at the end of each working day. He is a true family man, being a father of 4 and grandfather of 2 and loves a seafood paella paired with a glass of Oaked Chardonnay Dieu Donné – ‘A Gift from God’ Dieu Donné Vineyards was acquired by the French-Mauritian, Robert Maingard in 1987 in search of his French roots in South Africa. The Farm is situated high on the steep south-west facing slopes of the Franschhoek Mountains, which tempers the sun. This cooling effect ensure slow ripening of our grapes. Thanks to our cool summer conditions and unique soils from weathered granite with a rocky topsoil, called ‘Greywack’, the vines do not show excessive vigour, nor do they over-produce. These special soils do not get irrigated, further concentrating the flavours and characters of Dieu Donné’s terroir in the grapes. These exceptional conditions give Dieu Donné their special character.

After spending three summers here, we can’t believe no one told us about this winery sooner! We only discovered it thanks to a local recommendation — and we’re so grateful we did. The cellar tour was incredibly personal, engaging, and genuinely inspiring. Greg, the winemaker, shared his story and passion in such an authentic way that it made the whole experience feel special and intimate. On top of that, the views are absolutely stunning — the kind that make you want to stay all afternoon. The wines are very, very good (we loved every tasting), and the winery is even connected to the Pink Wine Tram, which makes visiting super easy and fun. It’s surprisingly quiet, which makes it even more enjoyable — though we can’t quite understand why it’s not more widely known yet. For us, it’s easily become one of our favourites. Highly recommend to anyone visiting the area! 🍷✨

Great views and great sparking wines! We came here as part of the wine tram experience (pink line) and decided to do the sparkling wine with brownie pairing. It all matched great with the views and overall experience. The staff were very friendly and the pairing was very good. Only comment would be to serve each sparkling wine separately rather than all at once. If you’re there on a hot day, by the time you get to the last sparkling wine, it’s already a bit warm so not as enjoyable as it could have been. Other than that. Definitely recommended!

Brownie and bubbles for breakfast? Absolutely a must. The brownie & MCC pairing is pure joy - while the chocolate pairing is divine too, the brownies definitely steal the show. The service is top-notch, and I mean… just look at that view. One of those places where the scenery is just as intoxicating as what’s in your glass. Final toast: To starting the day with bubbles, brownies, and breathtaking views.

Had a lovely time at Dieu Donné Vineyards! The staff were warm and welcoming, the wine was smooth and enjoyable, and the whole experience was just easy and relaxing. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area and looking for a scenic spot to unwind with a glass (or two).
