About Rickety Bridge Manor House

Welcome to Rickety Bridge, a centuries-old wine estate with beautiful farm-style accommodation, where we celebrate legacies past while forging a new future.

Coursed with ancient footpaths and historic wagon trails, this iconic Franschhoek estate was once part of a neighbouring property originally granted to French Huguenot farmers in 1694. By the 1830’s, it belonged to Paulina Pepler, making her one of South Africa’s first female landowners. Local lore touts her as a pioneering winemaker of her time – her resourceful spirit continues to inspire us in our own endeavours. Join us at our state-of-the-art Wine Tasting Centre for expert led tastings or enjoy a private tasting at your on the farm. Our vineyard and cellar tours are fascinating up-close-and-personal encounters with the people and talents who bring our grapes to life. Went here for a wine tasting and cellar tour. Was immediately greeted by staff with a lovely glass of bubbly. Had a wonderful cellar tour and the tasting was divine. Full glasses of wine for the tasting and two glasses at lunch. I could not possibly drink all the wine I was given. A beautiful estate, even in the winter when I went. Would love to come back in the summer time.

No more chocolate here at the wine tasting. This place was famous for that in the past. Bad services. We received all the wines together and nothing more than this wine is Sauvignon, this is Merlot etc. No information about the place and the wines produced there. We could go to the supermarket, buy 4 bottles of different wines and taste them. To bad about the amazing landscape there.

We would agree with the previous review that this hotel is misrepresentative pricing and advertising as a 4 star - it should be 2 star. The Manor House is outdated, basic, and feels more like an air bnb. We stayed for our honeymoon which we mentioned numerous times but this was not acknowledged. We were quite surprised the padel on site you do not get any usage out of as a hotel guest. The wine tasting and restaurant was modern and beautiful.

The five star rating, plus photos of the renovated wine tasting room are unfortunately very misleading regarding the actual accommodation. While the tasting room is modern and stunning (clearly where the investment has gone), the Manor House is dated. The stay was functionally frustrating: the water stopped working, the Wi-Fi didn't work and the electricity was unreliable. We encountered numerous rips and stains on the furniture. Having just stayed at Spier in Stellenbosch (a 4-star that was exemplary in every way), the contrast was stark. Rather than a "cheap 5-star," I would categorise Rickety Bridge as an expensive 2/3-star. I would not recommend staying here unless they reduce the price to be in line with a two star hotel. Or they invest in renovating to bring it up to a four star. The staff were lovely, attentive, and very apologetic about the issues. On the plus side, it was quiet and the location was great.
