ONS Wellness Centre at Karoo Botanicals in Prince Albert is so much more than just a wellness centre — it’s a truly special initiative uplifting the local community. ONS serves as a training hub where young people are exposed to valuable skills and opportunities that help them access and contribute to the mainstream economy, which made supporting them feel even more meaningful. My husband and I both had the full body massage, and it was honestly exceptional. I was so pleased to hear that, because it’s an NGO, the masseuse receives part of the profit directly. You could genuinely feel the care and intention in the treatment. I’ve had massages all over the world, and this woman massaged with such skill and purpose. She worked out all my knots without it ever feeling uncomfortable — it was absolute heaven! While we were there, the staff also told us about their delicious dinners, so we immediately booked for that too. The whole experience was wonderful from start to finish. We can’t wait to return. I’ll definitely be booking a cooking class next time we visit! A beautiful place doing beautiful work.

We had the most amazing cooking class with Shane with a good mix of traditional South African favorites and some international influences. He was so patient, and had so many tips even just for our everyday vcookibg. The food was absolutely amazing. This was excellent value and a truly memorable experience.

We spent an evening at Ons in Prince Albert and had the most incredible experience doing a cooking course with the wonderful chef, Shane. Ons itself is absolutely beautiful — every corner is filled with thoughtful details, making it such a special and inviting space. Shane was an exceptionally friendly, kind, and gentle chef who taught us so many useful cooking tips and techniques. What made the experience truly unique was how interactive it was — from taking us into the garden and teaching us about everything they grow, to letting us pick lemon leaves and fresh vegetables ourselves. It was the true definition of farm to table. He explained every ingredient he used and shared how he supports local farmers, sourcing most of his produce from them. It was really special to see the strong sense of community and how everyone is treated like family. Throughout the experience, we were able to taste along the way — sampling vegetables, spices, and elements of the dishes as they were being prepared. The meal itself was quite honestly fit for a king — the most delicious food we’ve ever tasted. Every dish was full of flavour, and it made it even more meaningful knowing exactly what we were eating and where it came from. Shane also shared the story of Ons and how just three years ago it was simply an empty piece of land, which made the experience even more inspiring. As a final, incredibly thoughtful touch, Shane even made our son a delicious birthday cake. We absolutely loved every moment of this experience and cannot recommend Ons and Shane highly enough — it was unforgettable.

We thoroughly enjoyed the Herbs and Spices course - not only did we learn a great deal but we also ate like Kings. Shane has a rare talent. He is clearly an intuitive chef but is able to share his instinct for his craft in an accessible and inspiring way. He is also good company. Highly recommended. Look out for his new projects coming soon.
