The best experience in Tulbagh so far. We booked a mini high tea in advance. Lida made the most wonderful spread of sweet and savoury treats. Besides the delicious and well presented eats the museum itself is in an immaculate condition. Not a speck of dust and each item is labeled with a proper description in a booklet provided. The condition of the building and exhibits are in a far better condition than the 'museums' in town. It is good to know that a piece of our history is in good hands.

The Drostdy Museum in Tulbagh is set in the most amazing location – surrounded by historic charm and stunning scenery. The building is beautifully preserved, and everything is incredibly clean and well maintained. We felt very welcome from the moment we arrived, warmly greeted at the door, which added a lovely personal touch. The exhibits are fascinating, and the rich history of the area really comes to life as you walk through. The old jail cellars were especially interesting to see, though we did notice some black mold in that area – it could use a bit of cleaning or at least a small warning sign for visitors. Despite that, it was a truly great experience overall – and the best part is, it’s free! Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Tulbagh and love history.

A friend and I went for a mini high-tea. It was a cold, rainy day and we were given a table in front of a crackling fire. The table was beautifully laid and we were welcomed warmly by Lida. Our delicious first 'course' was an espresso mug of hot butternut soup served with a warn, freshly baked bread roll. Our bite sized spinach and bacon quiches were extremely tasty and our light as air scones were served with butter, apricot jam cheese and cream. We each enjoyed a slice of delicious chocolate mousse cake all the while our cups of Twinings Earl Tea kept being filled by our smiling, friendly waitron whose name I have unfortunately forgotten. The light classical music played at just the right level enhanced the relaxed yet refined ambiance. The beautiful, historic building is well worth a visit. At R180 for 2 this mini high tea is sn absolute steal. Well done to all concerned.
