What a find this lovely lodge is... access an easy drive from Durban, the road has some construction at present but once that is finished it will be amazing! the reserve is massive with such diverse terrain, the game drives were epic, first afternoon saw 4 of the big five, our range Mkosi, was adamant to show us Leopard and he went out of his way, his passion for the reserve was contagious. The rooms are neat and the cleanliness and gardens is truly amazing. Beautiful swimming pool and boma area as well. The staff are very friendly and dining highlight was the lovely breakfasts, the lunch menu is huge but after that breakfast we just had a small wrap, the evening meal was pleasant - over all this is great value for money, bottom line you go for the game experience and when you are seeing the same sightings as the Phinda guests at a fraction of the cost - winner winner!! and for a bit of afternoon relaxation the spa is also lovely!

The lodge has 24 rooms all facing the garden and pool. Rooms are next to each other not seperate chalets. Big comfortable beds with mosquito nets. Aircon. Hairdryer. Tea and coffee station. One window opens with an insect screen to allow for hearing night sounds. No wi-fi in the rooms, only in the public areas. Nice big pool and safe as it is fenced. Staff are friendly and helpful. Meals are very generous and delicious. The lion sightings were incredible. Wally our friendly guide, is a great spotter and knows his birds. The game reserve is very scenic and game is plentiful.

We stayed at Founders Lodge and our only regret was that we didn’t stay longer. The welcome ice tea was so delicious we ordered it throughout our stay. The food was amazing!! That staff so wonderful and friendly. Our guide Khumbulani was great and we got to see the big five thanks to his expertise. Hoping to make Bayala a yearly holiday.

A lovely reserve with helpful friendly staff. The lodge building itself and grounds are excellent. Rooms are a little basic as you'd expect but were clean, comfortable with decent air-con and a good hot shower. We were fortunate over are two days at Bayala to see plenty of Elephant, Giraffe, Rhinos, buffalo, cheetahs numerous different antelopes and Zebra, hippos and warthogs.
