Don't expect the lodge stay to fill your time! I almost gave 3 stars due to how insidious the excursions are to try to rinse you. Everyone attending won the stay in a charity auction - and their WHOLE business model is quietly anchored around this: - the safari park is fun but you will definitely run out of things to see after 3 days. They do not have any predators, and it is small. No lions, no cheetahs, only a few elephants. - you will be asked about the excursions a lot, and they have VERY high mark ups. If you don't have your own car you will be stuck accepting them. - the lodge is nice, but caters towards this mass market of people who didn't pick the lodge; there is not much to do on site other than sleep/drink/eat. The pool is functional. Food is at set times with a fairly limited (but tasty) menu of food. Advice - We had rented a car and could therefore book our own side trips and had a great time, paying about 1/4 the cost compared to the excursions other guests did, with some great options 30mins drive away (like the private reserves nearby, or St Lucia, or the Imflozi national park). Come for MAX 4 nights - then explore elsewhere in this part of the world.

An Unforgettable South African Safari Experience Our week at Zulu Nyala Game Reserve was truly one of the more memorable travel experiences Julie and I have ever had. If you are considering a safari in South Africa, this place absolutely deserves your attention. First and foremost — Ranger Sipho was outstanding. Honestly, he made the trip exceptional. His tracking ability was incredibly impressive, and it quickly became obvious that he has a deep understanding of both the animals and the bush itself. Beyond his knowledge, his personality, humor, professionalism, and genuine enthusiasm made every single game drive something we looked forward to. You could tell he truly cared about giving guests the best possible experience. We absolutely loved him. During our stay, we recorded over 35 different animal sightings. Highlights included cheetahs, rhinos, massive elephant herds, giraffes, and countless other incredible encounters. Every drive felt different, and there was always a sense of anticipation about what might appear next. One piece of advice: the optional half-day excursion to Hluhluwe–iMfolozi Park is an absolute MUST. Seeing wildlife in the world’s second-largest national park added another layer to the entire experience and was well worth it. Also — do the off-site elephant experience. Trust me. It is genuinely a once-in-a-lifetime moment, and I will intentionally avoid giving details because part of the magic is experiencing it for yourself. The accommodations were surprisingly modern, spacious, and very comfortable. If you are worried about “roughing it,” don’t be. There was nothing rustic about the lodging at all. After long game drives, returning to a comfortable room was greatly appreciated. The lodge staff throughout the property were consistently warm, accommodating, and friendly. Everyone we encountered genuinely seemed happy to help and eager to make guests feel welcome. To be fair and balanced: the food was not the highlight of the trip. That said, I never came expecting a five-star fine dining experience in the middle of safari country. The meals were perfectly acceptable, there was plenty of variety, and nobody went hungry — just set expectations appropriately. Overall, this trip exceeded our expectations in almost every way. The wildlife, the scenery, the people, and especially Ranger Sipho created memories that will stay with us forever. We left with thousands of photos and stories we’ll be telling for years. Highly, highly recommended.

10/10 experience! Zulu Nyala felt like home away from home. We were lucky enough to the David as our ranger. He was welcoming, intelligent and very involved. He was able to answer all of our questions and take us on some pretty amazing excursions! Our favorites were the elephant experience and the lion safari. The staff were lovely and service was great! We had the best massages at the spa and the grounds were beautiful and well kept. We can’t wait to come back!

This was the trip of a lifetime!! It’s the perfect balance of activities and adventure mixed with rest and relaxation! Every day is different because you’ll never see the same thing twice. We had an amazing game driver (graison) and the most wonderful safari group! It made the trip that much better! We enjoyed the spa, the low key atmosphere, the beautiful grounds. The off site excursions were worth every penny and very affordable. We did the elephant encounter (AMAZING!!!!), the lion safari, the walking bird safari, and the day trip to St Lucia with a hippo boat ride. I’ve been home for four weeks and talk about this trip every day! It was a dream come true!
